Gold Coast Meter Maid

Whilst walking the streets of Surfers Paradise, you would have noticed overly tanned teenage girls walking around in golden colored bikinis. These are known as Meter Maids. Their responsibility is to provide a service to the public parking there cars in council parking slots and have exceeded their parking meter time limit, by entering a $1 coin into the machine. You could even have your photo taken together, which made a classic Surfers Paradise souvenir.

Well, the last I knew of this was back in the 90’s, when they actually did their job properly. These day’s you will find them approaching people on the streets selling products for other retail outlets, and even touting for those annoying party operators outside of bar entrances.

It’s a shame that Surfers Paradise is loosing it classic way.

GC Model

Did you know that in Surfers Paradise there are rip-off modeling agencies walking around pretending to be from a professional catwalk organization, convincing attractive GC girls to sign up with their modelling brand. The pitch is they approach women on the street and compliment them on their looks and profile, then offer a photo shoot opportunity to become a potential model. When they go along to the office it’s actually a high pressured sales pitch, similar to that of a time-share promotion. Instead, they are pressured into buying a top model photo shoot or a catwalk lesson. These products can cost thousands of dollars.
